If you get around the world on two legs and you want the best of the best, you look for designers like Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Hermes. If you get around on four feet, you wear Chic Doggie.

Chic Doggie is an exclusive line of apparel, carriers and accessories for dogs created by designer Corey Gelman. If nothing but the best will do, Chic Doggie is the way to go.

We recently spoke to Corey about the explosion in demand for her designer products.

pp: What made you decide to start Chic Doggie by Corey?

cg: One day while shopping at Gucci with Bear, who was dressed in a leather coat I designed for her, a well known fashion editor from InStyle Magazine took notice. She immediately arranged to have Bear's coat photographed for the pages of InStyle Magazine. The editor suggested that I make more of my dog coats... and the rest is doggie fashion history. Chic Doggie by Corey is now sold all over the world.

pp: How many years have you been designing products for dogs?

cg: Three years.

pp:Are your product lines carried only in the US, or they available worldwide?

cg: Worldwide, including England, France, and Japan.

pp: What's your design background?

cg: None professionally, but I've always loved fashion since I was a child and have been designing all types of clothing since.

pp: How do you come up with the designs?

cg: I design products that are very chic and elegant - nothing cheap or cheesy looking. I basically design what I would wear, but for the dogs. I follow the fashion trends and integrate it into my line every season but I keep the staples, such as cashmere, every year. My line is for the very elegant, chic, luxurious, posh, and sophisticated dog.

pp: What influences your design choices?

cg: Again, I follow the fashion shows and trends every season and try and add these looks into my line for variety. I also keep the staples of cashmere and leather every season.

pp: Your most popular product?

cg: We have so many but if I have to choose our top three I would have to say our pearl necklaces with rhinestone ball closures, our sterling silver jewelry, and our Italian calfskin dog carriers.

pp: Your personal favourite?

cg: Our Italian calfskin dog carriers - they are so luxurious and look so elegant and sophisticated when carried. They do not even look like dog carriers. They just look like very chic bags.

pp: What's the most rewarding part of running Chic Doggie?

cg: I get to work with dogs all day!

pp: Why do you think there has been such an increase in demand for luxury dog products over the last ten years?

cg: People love their dogs. Dogs give you unconditional love and you want to return that love your dog gives you. Over the years, luxury products have just grown tremendously. Our dogs have become like children - our spending has no limits when it comes to our babies! Since Chic Doggie has started three years ago, we have just grown tremendously. Our clients seem to have no limits to what they will spend on their dogs. Our sales have even doubled since September 11. I think this is because people have justreally bonded more with their pets after the horrible tragedy.

pp: What plans do you have for the future of Chic Doggie?

cg: To continue to make quality products and add a fun, new variety of clothes to our product line; to continue to please our customers with the integrity of our products and our attention to detail.

pp: Tell us a little about Bear.

cg: Bear is my model and muse. She is 5 years old and has been on Access Hollywood,E! Entertainment, MTV, E Online, and in Palm Beach Illustrated, Hamptons Magazine, and in Cosmopolitan.
