Shakespeare dog film

200910-10r.jpg What's done is done. Or so Lady Macbeth thought. The idea for the Dog Film Company's, Shakespaws, first came to creator/NYC actor, Seamus Mulcahy, while dog-sitting as a day job. Why not create a cheeky film that's nurturing and visually stimulating for dogs and entertaining for dog lovers, as well? Hence, Shakespaws was born, a film for dogs BY dogs displaying their acting chops in Shakespearean adaptations donning full regalia. The adorable film casts a wide variety of breeds--big and small--appealing to the gamut of furry, frenzied fans. Check out the "Meet the Stars" section of the website--the cast includes several red carpet-worthy pooches with some impressive film credits to their names. What's more, Mulcahy has found that the film captivates kids and serves as a great first-exposure to Shakespearean verse. Seems like that "winter of discontent" could be over.

Canine genealogy kit

200910-13r.jpg Knowing the breeds in your dog's ancestry can be a key ingredient in making sure your precious one maintains a long, happy and healthy life. What was once a difficult or even impossible feat--especially in cases of rescue or adoption--is now as simple as a cotton swab and a stamp. The Canine Genealogy Kit from Hammacher and Schlemmer analyzes your dog's DNA, identifies the breeds, and provides scientific confirmation of the physical characteristics, behavioral tendencies, personality traits, and potential health risks your dog has inherited. All you have to do is rub a cotton swab inside your dog's cheek, send it to the professional lab in the provided envelope, and the lab tests and compares the unique sequences in your canine's genome with DNA markers from a database of thousands of purebred dogs. The DNA test recognizes 63 different breeds (93% of the most common breeds in the U.S.) that can make up your pet's genetic profile. Within about three weeks, you'll receive a certificate listing your dog's ancestry and a detailed explanation of each breed's dominant characteristics that likely have been passed on to your dog. Gotta love modern technology!

Pet hair broom

200910-14r.jpg Hair ye, hair ye. We love our furry friends. But that's just it, they're well, furry. And keeping floors and rugs pet hair free can be a daunting daily ritual. Frankly, breaking out the bulky purple Dyson (though a miracle worker) on a daily basis is a real pain in the "tail." Bissell's light and airy but tough-enough pet hair broom saves the day. Bissell thought of everything when designing this pet-hair wonder. We think the most ingenious feature is the flexible rubber bristles that literally attract pet hair like a magnet. The broom works on both bare floors and rugs and is angled to tackle corners. The handle adjusts to three heights and includes a soft, nonslip grip for comfort and to prevent slippage when leaned against walls. The broom head's soft bumper protects furniture and its lean profile stows away in a snap. Its pearl and orange color scheme is even kinda groovy, to boot. A no-brainer in our book.

Custom wool pet sculptures

200909-1r.jpg You may have already immortalized your beloved furry friend with a painted portrait, but why stop there? A sculpted wool portrait by Amelia Santiago is truly the 'piece de resistance' of dog portraits. They're sort of like custom "webkinz" on steroids. Santiago sculpts your pet's likeness out of 100% wool using a super-cool technique called needle felting--literally sculpting the fibers like clay. No patterns, no thread, no sewing--just your provided photo and some serious sculpting skills. Sculpture sizes range from about 6" x 8" to 9" x 11" depending on breed size. We're really digging on the option to add cute extras like crowns, a fave ball or toy, or other details to really make the sculpture your own. They make unique gifts, too.

Boney evening bag

200908-15a.jpgDog lovers are dog lovers at all times of day and at any kind of event, be it casual, casual (um, pooper scooping anyone?) or fancy, fancy black tie. Be ready for your next red carpet event with the Boney Bag from Timmy Woods of Beverly Hills. We love so very many of Timmy Woods' bags for their chicness, whimsical appeal, and style and, of course (of course) the Boney style is our hands-down absolute favorite. It's shiny and black and bone-shaped with a beautiful sparkly closure featuring another sparkly bone. It makes us want to wear it everywhere. It makes us want to frequently say words like "fabulous" and "darling" and "we have to have it." Pretty much, we kind of do have to have it...

Dog art showcase *

200908-1am.jpg* This is a paid sponsored post.

You know what sucks? Bare walls. They're blah. They're uninspired. They tell your visitors absolutely nothing about your personality. Which is why we love art, and why Best Friends NYC has set up a "not-for-profit" art installation; a 12 artist showcase celebrating artists who are "inspired by dogs". Inside, you'll find dozens of breeds pictured including Weimeraners (so lovely and iconic - thank you, William Wegman), Pugs (our personal fave here at Pampered Puppy), Frenchies, Boston Terriers... really, there's something here for every dog owner. Some of the artwork is truly breathtaking, and the artists run the gamut geographically from Los Angeles to Brooklyn, NY. Talented, too: many of the artists have had gallery showings worldwide, magazine features, and are collected by the rich and famous. Most of the painting styles are traditional, but there are a a couple of more modern artists included in the showcase. Each artist's page features a half-dozen or more paintings you can see full-size as well as read a mini-bio of the artist discussing their dog-themed art and portraits. We were particularly taken with Daniela Ria's "old masters"-inspired style and Ellen Silverberg's mise-en-scene paintings. Stunning work that may just encourage you to pick up some pooch-lovin' art for your bare, uninspired walls... and inspire yourself.
