Animal lover Karen Garner spent more than $6000 to save a homeless dog that she found while she was on holiday in Mauritius. Her plan was to take the dog with her back to the UK where she lives.
Jean Paul, the homeless dog, was malnourished, and she found him near the hotel where she was staying. This 47-year-old Samaritan from Scotland has spent most of her 7 day holiday saving Jean Paul.
After she decided that she wants to keep him, she drove over the entire island to leave him in the pet shelter, and paid for his stay there. Jean Paul had to be vaccinated, and before he goes to Scotland with Karen, he has to spend six months in quarantine.
Karen said she is aware that many people will probably criticize her choice for spending so much money on saving a dog. She said to The Daily express: “I know there will be people out there saying the money could have been spent on charities. But at the end of the day it is my money and I can do what I want with it. If people want to spend their money on drink and cigarettes, flash clothes and expensive mobiles, let them, it’s their choice. If I could do it again I would, but I think I have done my bit for now. I am not flash with my money, but thought I should use the last of my savings to do this.”
