Tips Tuesday: Tips for traveling with your dog

If you want your dog to be your best companion on long road trips, here are some tips on how to prepare for the road, what to take and how to make your dog stay well mannered during the trip.

When traveling on long distances, it is always a nice thing to have company. If you don’t have anyone else to go with you, why not taking your dog?! Training your dog to respect the rules of the road and the car is not such an easy task, but once you succeed, your pet will be more than just a companion. He will be someone that will be protecting you form unfriendly places, and keep you safe, no matter where you go.

It is a few difficult taking puppies on long trips. The thing is that puppies don’t like to stay quiet for a lot of time, and when taking them in the car on longer trips, you can expect that they will be jumping around in the basket, going under the seats, wining, etc. All this doesn’t represent a safe environment in the car while you are driving.

So, what you should take with you when going with your pooch on a long journey? First of all, don’t forget to pack extra food and water. If you are traveling in the summer, water is a very important thing as dogs become thirsty very fast. Taking a travel bowl is an excellent solution as well. You can even take a special car seat for your dog where he will be able to feel safe. Also, don’t forget to take some toys to make your pet’s journey pass faster. And once you reach the final destination, make sure that you took a dog leash and doggie bags.

In the end, when traveling long distances, taking some dog medications can turn out to be a good idea.
