Travel Thursday: All you need to know about pet car seats

Spring is almost knocking at the door, and it normally brings new travels. For all those pet owners that don’t like the idea of leaving their dogs at home, there are a lot of easy ways of how you can take your pet with you and have the best holidays ever.

Pet friendly hotels are today available in almost any tourist destinations, however sometimes the biggest problem can be how to get to them. Normally, people tend to travel by car, and in this case long trips will require that you have a proper pet car seat as well.

Pet car seats are very important for many reasons, and one of them is the fact that both you and your dog will be properly secured in your vehicle and you as a driver will not get distracted with the dog.

Car pet seats are available in a variety of sizes. This means that you can have them for both small and medium sized dogs and cats as well.  Unfortunately, car seats cannot accommodate large dogs. The largest dog that can comfortably sit in a pet car seat cannot have more than 35 lbs.

Pet car seats are normally secured to the vehicle seat the same way as child car seats. These dog seats need to be strapped in using the car’s safety belt. These seats also have a lead attached to them. This lead has to be attached to the harness and not to the collar of your dog as this can cause strangulation if you get involved in an accident.

Car pet seats are available in all kinds of shapes, colors, sizes, and fabrics. Some of them even have storage compartments for your dog to take his favorite toys or treats.

But what happens if you have more than one dog? No worries! There are car pet seats that can easily accommodate more than one pet.

Before hitting the road, make sure that your dog got used to the car seat. And don’t forget to pick a pet friendly hotel/motel so that you don’t have any problems once you reach your final holiday destination.
