how we wear our boots
// 2009.01.16Lots of comments in Merry's boot pics this year about how I get her to wear them! Well, here are the steps:
- Put them on the dog inside the house, when you're just hanging out. Do this for the first week or two, a little bit each day.
- No more than 5 minutes at a time for the first few times.
- Distract them while they're wearing the boots around the house - with fetch, treats, play, training, anything you can think of to occupy them while they get used to it.
- Once they've worn the boots at least a half-dozen times without fussing at them, THEN take them oustide for a walk in them.
This is how I broke Merry in - a few days around the house, some fetch, and she was fine with them.
Important to note that a) the pug will NOT walk happily outside for more than a few steps without boots because the ice and salt kill her poor little pug feet, b) she is now so comfortable with the procedure of putting on the boots that she dozes in your lap while you do it... as she's doing here, while my fiance gets her boots on.
awww...merry looks so cute and cuddly (the sweatshirt appears to be ULTRA soft). i ordered the boots merry modeled yesterday for my coco. she currently has muttluks but they are difficult to get on. can't wait to try the hikers. :)

Miss Merry is a heartthrob no matter what she is doing. I love her little snoozy face. And, yes, the boots. These look like they are suede. It's texture city in this black & white. It doesn't get any better then this, huh Merry!

This may be my new favorite shot of miss thang! She looks so comfy, sitting like an old person (SO pug!), smiling contently just a smidge (thinking: yeah, I've got 'em trained....)! It's a real feel for her snuggly personality - thanks for the perfect Friday pic!!
p.s. love that refer to her as 'the pug' - hilarious!

aww merry is so cute! that is how i hold my pug.. everyone always says.. doesnt that hurt her? and i always tell them that that is the way she is most comfortable. your puggy is adorable!
