The princess was very happy to go out yesterday and today and play ball. I have a feeling it will be several times a day up till her surgery, since I'm told it should be months before we play ball again after the surgery, even in the house where it's safer.

Question to all of you: if you have a dog (particularly a pug) who's gone through this surgery, how long was it till you could play again? Merry's balls are very soft rubber, but I don't want to risk her going blind, either...

I could just hug her to pieces!!

My Mugsy had lazer eye surgery, not for cataracts, he had eyelashes growing in wrong and scratching his eye. They removed those and some of the damaged tissue. Mugsy was 1 1/2 then, and stopping him from playing was not much of an option. We tried to take it easy for about 3 months. It was hard but then the cone can take the fun out of things pretty easy. Although he did learn to play keep away with his brother by sticking the cone over top of a toy. Fun finds a way :)

Mugsy, Hugo and I are sending good thoughts your way!

Our pug didn't have eye surgery, but he did have multiple surgeries for mast cell tumors. While we were were very, very worried at the time of each of his surgeries and throughout his chemo treatments, he continued to amaze us with how quickly he bounced back each time. He has been in remission now for almost two years and at 13.5 years old is still full of pug spunk!

Best wishes on a successful surgery for Merry!

i think it will be 2 months or so, never had a puggie go through this, but i'm a nurse and with humans we caution them for that period of time. hopefully, it will not be any longer for the princess. we are praying for her and know that she will be as bright eyed as ever. blessed be.... maybe she could wear doggles for protection

Hello! Even though I do not have my pug yet, (im getting it in approx. 3 weeks) here are some sulotions. Wear doggles when taking a walk if snowing, windy, raining or very sunny. Also, clean the eyes daily. Hope that helps!

OMG!! What a cute picture! My pug, Maggie, and I wish Princess Merry all the best...and a super-speedy recovery. Please keep us updated on her surgery date and progress afterwards.

little girl! what a harrowing experience to get all prepared and weepy only to bring her back home... luckily it looks like she's taking it all in stride! don't know about recovery time from cataract surgery (altho one of my babies has had surgery for just about everything else), but best wishes for an uneventful surgery!

My baby pug Stella and I wish the fellow princess pug all the very best for her surgery. How awful that she won't be able to play for months! Poor darling. She'll bounce back in no time, I'm sure.
