how to: make mommy worry
// 2007.01.22The princess threw up on Saturday. Not a totally unheard of occurrence for a pug; but she threw up twice (at which point she was put on a strict rice-only diet) and then woke me up at 5am Sunday morning with the most incredible Dreamcatcher-worthy intestinal rumblings. She was clearly unhappy with her body, as she wouldn't lay down or walk around much, just sat there, leaning on one arm, looking at me with ears flattened. So, off to the Veterinary Emergency Clinic we went.
It's a depressing place, even more so than a human Emergency Ward - one poor kitty lost her life while we were there, and two poochies in pretty severe distress were also admitted before the pug, one of them a car accident victim. I have nothing but respect for the folks who work there - it would kill me to see that every day, I think.
Luckily, once we got in to see the doctor, he assured me after examinating Merry that she was simply having some severe gas, and he gave her a shot of what I'm calling Puppy Immodium. He encouraged me to keep her on the simple rice diet for at least another day, and to let him know if there were any more problems.
Within several hours the pug was back to normal. No more tummy rumblings, active and happy (seeking out toys to play with all on her own), and happily gobbling down rice and a little big of veggies last night for dinner before cuddling with us on the couch.
Of course, she slept in a little extra this morning due to all the excitement yesterday - wish I could have done so as well! But I'm just relieved the princess is happy and healthy again. Silly puppy, scaring your momma like that!

Glad she is all better!

Yikes! I had a similar episode with my pug, Piewhackit. Only she had to have emergency surgery (she's fine now, thank goodness)!
So glad Merry is better! My heart jumped when I first saw the caption! Whew!

Isn't it funny how much stress these little guys can cause us "pet moms". I am glad she is better!

As I've said before, I have 3 little pugs, and I love your site and keeping up on Merry pics. & news.
I'm so glad she is feeling better.
BTW, Merry looks just like my middle pug, Bailey.

Thanks, everyone, for your kind comments and well wishes. The princess continues to show no symptoms other than a slightly mixed up potty schedule from the shot and the rice diet. She's active, happy and healthy, as far as I can tell. She'd give you all puggy licks if she could just for being so nice!
Myself, I'm looking into heart medication. :) Because it just about freezes in my chest any time we have to go to the Doc for something like that!
