photo shoots with the princess
// 2005.12.16A reader asked yesterday how I get the princess to stay still long enough to take a photo. Today, I thought I'd share my answers:
- The reality is I don't, always. The photos you see here are often the result of 40+ photos taken to get a good photo - and at least a few photos in every shoot are of Merry's tail as she gets up and tries to walk away. :)
- Use the best treats you can - this is no time for wheat-free rock-hard healthy treats. Find a treat your pet will go snaky over, and then give them a small piece, tell them to sit, and hold the next piece just out of frame to keep their attention.
- Try to find a small, distraction-free space away from other family members, television, and other noises so that your dog can focus better on your voice, and also to help keep them calm during the shoot.
Hope that helps, guys!

I check on Princess everyday and she just gets cuter.

Cheese, literally. Reggie, my pug, will do ANYTHING for cheese. It's the best training tool I've found.

Ditto on the cheese, Mike. Particularly stinky cheeses like very old cheddar, smoked cheddar, blue cheese, anything with a strong smell/flavor. Merry's favorite is Applewood Smoked Cheddar, and that's what we've been using for these photo shoots. ;)

I just recently came across Merry's website and have been thoroughly enjoying it. I have a 16 month old pug (Phoebe) who is my baby. I'm going to try and take more pictures of her with your helpful hints. I guess having my two labs in the room isn't helping, huh? ha ha
