Muffin Dog Treats from Get Lickd
Dog Treats Review - A Merryvaluationby Angie McKaig
I love muffins. Bran (yes, I like bran muffins. With butter. Which is redundant. But whatever), banana, blueberry (mmmm... blueberry), apple, carrot, cranberry, orange, and let us not forget chocolate chip. Because, well, chocolate.
Oh come on, admit it, you're addicted to chocolate too.
The point is that muffins are lovely. When the folks at Get Lickd (totally love the name) mentioned they'd like to send a package of their muffin-based treats to the princess for a review, the pug climbed over me and insisted that they send them right now.
Well, not really.
True to their word, Get Lickd sent one of their variety packs with each of the four flavors they carry:
- Peanut Butter Carob
- Sweet Potato Oatmeal
- Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal
- Banana Carob Chip
The ingredient list is drool-worthy both for pets and for owners who want to ensure their pets eat healthy:
Banana, sweet potato, apple, peanut butter, cinnamon, brown rice flour, eggs, honey, vanilla, oatmeal, vegan carob chips, baking powder and water. Everything except the carob, baking powder and water (natch) are 100% organic.
Biggest surprise? They're not soft! Oh, they look soft absolutely. They look squishy and soft on their web site photos, particularly. But they're hard. It was such a surprise!
Once we got over the shock, we were fine.
I found these treats wonderfully healthy and well presented (they're packaged in recycled paper coffee bags). My only concern is their size - you will definitely need to crumble these up for smaller dogs. They're not big in circumference, but they are deeper, much like a muffin, rather than a flat baked biscuit. Luckily, they're not rock solid; they crumble very easily (and into a million pieces!) when you try to break them, and that's definitely the way to go for wee mouths. I'd also suggest feeding the treat on a blanket, cloth, paper towel, or in a bowl since, as I said, they crumble a LOT. But I will tell you this:
The princess pug? She loved them. She happily snorfed down the whole thing and then went for a big drink of water, only to return to me and ask me where the next muffin was.
