Dog Treats Review - A Merryvaluation
It's tough, to be a little dog.
Sometimes it seems like the whole world was created for beings bigger than you. That is, forget about all the stuff that's made for people - dog treats are usually huge. It's the one area of the industry that hasn't caught up as well with the trend towards tinier pups. But hey, our little guys deserve some lovin' too, right? Am I right?
Usually, feeding your tiny pet treats means buying larger-pup treats and then breaking them down into tinier pieces. But Sojos sent along a package of three sets of cookies that are specifically made for the 20-pounds-and-under set. Happy days!
The folks from Sojos kindly sent along all three of their available Sojos Good Dog Treats flavors - Apple Dumpling, Chicken Pot Pie, and Peanut Butter & Jelly.
The ingredients impressed us a great deal. Human-quality ingredients, sure, but also an ingredient list that's shorter than the Gettysburg address. The PB&J flavor dog treat list, for example, read like this: oat flour, rolled oats, peanut butter, strawberries, eggs, vegetable oil, baking powder. Now that's an easy to read list. We were also hugely impressed that all of the treats are 100% wheat and corn free. Given how much of those ingredients tend to end up in most commercially available dog foods, that's good news indeed.
What we found when we opened the box: teeny tiny, hand baked bones. Just the perfect size for your toy or miniature breed dog.
These are not your typical industrial strength puppy cookies. If you drop one, it will break. If you squeeze it too hard, in fact, it may break. We saw this as a good thing - how many times have you offered a hard-baked treat from the store to your tiny pet only to find out they couldn't crush the biscuit with their jaws? That's never going to be a problem here.
The tenderness to these biscuits tends to make them even more jowl-smackingly tasty to the tiny furry set; Merry could literally not get enough of the Peanut Butter & Jelly biscuits. They are her new favorite and she lets me know at every opportunity that she would like "some more, please".
Now, before we round up the review of these treats, we do have to make a nod to their packaging. All too often, doggy biscuit packaging is pretty uninspired. But we're suckers for good visual design - while we know that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, the simple truth is that well-designed products tend to work better, taste better, and just plain catch our eye better. And these products are wonderfully designed; the packaging is darned sexy. It's also functional - the box seals up with a carrying handle to make toting these lightweight treats to the beach that much easier.
Of all the treats Merry's tried, there are one or two that we'll buy again and again for her. Sojos Good Dog Treats just got added to that list. We're in love; it's official! Let's eat to that!
