Sterling Pet Jewelry from DogChewz NYC

Dog Jewelry - A Merryvaluation

Every little girl loves jewelry. While Merry may not have spent hours in front of her mirror at home, preening and primping and pretending to be a princess (because, as she reminds me, real princesses don't have to pretend), she loves shiny and sparkly things.

Luckily, she likes them to look at, not eat. :)

DogChewz NYC recently sent along a package of jewelry for the princess and I to evaluate - a necklace for her, with two different sterling charms and also a semi-precious stone charm. (They also kindly sent along a matching charm bracelet for me - even the charms match - and a pair of dangly earrings to match the semi-precious stone charm.)

The charms were just lovely and very well made. The first was probably my favorite - an adorable pug charm, complete with curvy tail. The charm is completely solid, meaning it's a little heavier but not too heavy, just a nice solid weight dangling from a collar or necklace. Several other breed charms are also available - although we're a bit biased, we love the pug!

The second charm was, undoubtably, Merry's favorite - the word "Princess" spelled out in a charming script typeface. Because it's a little lighter, it could be easily worn by even the tiniest of princesses.

The third charm was a lovely dangly piece, with light pink rose quartz hearts, a freshwater pearl and a tiny sterling charm that says "I Love You". (The earrings and Mommy charm bracelet matched this item, and were adorable as well!)

The necklace was a very lightweight sterling open-loop chain with a bone toggle clasp. The necklaces, charms and all findings are sterling silver and made by hand in New York City. All the stones are semi-precious; their jewelry line includes amethyst, peridot, rose quartz, freshwater pearls, tourmaline, and fluorite. And each item comes packaged in its own black velvet jewelry box for safekeeping.

If we had one suggestion for improvement: making the necklace a little sturdier would help. The charms themselves are very sturdy, with nice heavy lobster clasps. However, the necklace is very lightweight and a little fragile for more active dogs. While this kind of chain works well for humans, we've found that having heavier links and more sturdy clasps are just safer in the long run, especially if you like your princess to wear their jewelry for any length of time around the house.

Merry and I enjoyed the jewelry, and the "Princess" charm is hanging from her collar today!
