Sharon Montrose has been making her stunning dog photography available for years. First came Dogtionary: Meaningful Portraits of Dogs, featuring over 90 photographs of some of the most adorable dogs we've ever seen. She followed up a year later with Cationary, for cat lovers (but we won't hold that against her). Next came Lightweights, which we reviewed last year; a heartwarming collection of tiny puppies. And now she's done it again, created a book we need for our coffee table: Carry-Ons - Traveling Chihuahuas.

For the Chihuahua lover, this book is an absolute must-have. Each page features a new Chihuahua, including details about each dog. More importantly, Sharon seems to have an innate sense of each dog's inner workings, and photographs them in an environment that complements and enhances their personality.

For the lover of photography books, this is a gem without price. The colors are punchy and the photographic style is very contemporary. The look and feel of each page is a visual treat.

We spoke briefly to Sharon about her newest book.

pp: What inspired you to publish Carry-Ons?

sm: When my publishers asked me to do a Chihuahua book, the first thing I thought of was how people take their Chi's everywhere with them. And so, the concept was formed.

pp: How long did it take you to shoot the entire book?

sm: I shot the book in about 3 months.

pp: How did you find the right Chihuahuas for your photo shoots?

sm: The dogs I ended up using were dogs that could be photographed at one of the locations they actually traveled to.

pp: How do you get inspiration for the different settings in each of the photos?

sm: I got a lot of the inspiration from where the dogs actually went or lived. Also, I wanted to incorporate some places like: a car, a plane, and a cafe because those locations just seemed natural.

pp: What was the most challenging part of this book?

sm: The most challenging part as always, is the patience it takes to photograph dogs. [Ed. note: after photographing Merry every month for Pampered Puppy, we understand all too well!]

pp: What was the most rewarding part of this book?

sm: Definitely getting to know Chihuahuas. I have a whole new appreciation for the breed. They are terrific little dogs.

pp: Do you have more dog photo books planned for the future?

sm: Yes, I am working on a series of books based on my book, Lightweights.

pp: Why do you think coffee table books on dogs - particularly photographic ones - have become increasingly popular?

sm: I get asked this question a lot and I continue to think that all the latest popularity in dog related products are due to more and more people getting dogs and understanding why dogs are such a special part of life. I know I couldn't imagine my life without them.
