January Dog Photo Contest Winners
Over 1600 dog photos submitted this month! Alas, only fifteen photos could win - it was tough to judge this month, with such incredible photos to choose from. (That's why we've finally INCREASED both the number of prizes AND the dollar value for all 2010 contests!) Fenway's Mom says: “This photo was taken when Fenway was about seven months old, he had just fallen asleep in my husband's arms. You can tell by how comfortable he is that he is completely trusting of my husband. Fenway is so spoiled by him. Fenway came into our lives after we lost our one of our Boxers and we were looking for a companion for our remaining Boxer Tank. Tank had become so depressed over losing his companion that we didn't know what to do. We brought Fenway home and he immediately took to his new brother. He loves him very much.”

Batu Khan's Mom says: “We adopted our puppy from a local humane shelter when he was one-and-a-half years old - from a photo on the shelter's Web site! When we went to visit him, we learned that he had simply found his way to the shelter 5 months earlier. We can't imagine why it took so long for him to find a home. Just our good luck, I guess! Batu is now 10 years old and loves to travel with us on all our photography expeditions. In this photo, he is sitting on a dune at sunset, in the White Sands National Monument, listening intently to coyotes yipping in the distance.”

Maulee's Mom says: “We have had our Wheaten Terrier pup, Maulee, for just five weeks, but she has already established herself as a family member. Having had two Wheatens in the past, we were still surprised that she has proven (at just 13 weeks) to be an amzingly quick learner. A typical terrier, Maulee has decided that anything she has found on the floor or on the lawn and can shake vigorously is her favourite toy for the moment. Although she definitely is full of energy, she has moments - such as in this shot - when she seems like a mature dog - almost serious. ”

He loves life and acts like a puppy. He keeps us entertained and laughing all the time. His animal pals included Rowdy, a mix breed cattle dog, and a black cat named Puss, all rescued from the same shelter.”

Ally's Mom says: “My late Golden Retriever, Ally! She was a pure bread who lived until she was 8, and recently passed this summer. Ally faced some challenges, and eventually we lost her to cancer. She loved to frolic in the grass, say hello to everyone she saw, and would always stop to smell the roses! She just beamed with love and would never hurt a soul; not even the tiniest bug. She has been the most beautiful, loving soul I have, and will ever encounter.”
