December Dog Photo Contest Winners
Over 1200 dog photos submitted this month! As always, only ten could win - it was ESPECIALLY difficult this month, with such incredible photos to choose from. (That's why we've finally INCREASED both the number of prizes AND the dollar value for all 2010 contests!) Both our winners and our 170 honorable mentions were truly incredible this month - be sure to stop by and see them.

Oliver's Mom says: “This is Oliver, my 13 year old Weardie (Beardie Wheaten...or so we think). I adopted him about five years ago and while I can't for the life of me figure out why he'd been through three homes by the time I got him, I am so grateful he was passed on to me! His favorite toy would be anything stuffed. He loves to rip them open and de-stuff them, yanking out the filler and spitting it out before going back in for more. He has been a wonderful pet and companion and is endlessly patient with my photographing him (as long as a treat is waiting for him)!”

Tech's Dad says: “Here is a picture of Tech my Rhodesian Ridgeback. Tech walks around with a full head of steam, with full sense of entitlement. No bed is safe in the middle of the night, if you go to bed without Tech chances are you will wake up with him and he will have taken over most of it. He loves Mt.Biking and pretty much anything outdoors. He has more energy then he knows what to do with. Carrots, bananas, milk bones raw-hides... pretty much anything that can be eaten is his favorite treat.”

Hunter's Dad says: “I enjoy taking pictures of my Vizsla dogs (Hunter and Maggie) Hunter is most cooperative and photogenic. He loves to be fussed over. Maggie is less interested in photography. Every December our dogs are featured on our Christmas card. It has become a tradition that everyone looks forward to receiving. Both dogs love affection and attention. They are gentle and are excellent little friends! ”

Oliver's Foster Mom says: “Oliver was a sweet little fella as soon as we got him! He was with 2 other foster puppies. It was so fun to watch the 3 of them play! Oliver was a bit of a drama queen though.... If one of the dogs would be playing a bit hard for his liking, he would pretty much scream! It scared me to death the first time I heard it! I thought they were killing him! But as I started to watch more closely I noticed he did that to get them off of him and then he would immediately go bounding after them in a great game of chase! He now has a great home with a family and also has a black lab as a sibling.”

Basil's Mom says: “This is Basil, our Golden Retriever. He is 5 1/2 years old and we refer to him as our first child. We adopted him at the age of 4 from a loving family who could no longer give him the attention he deserved. He is exactly what we had been waiting for. Life without him is truly unimaginable. He keeps us grounded and reminds us every single day of the true meaning of friendship and loyalty. His unconditional love has stretched our hearts to the fullest. Basil's favorite toys are stuffed birds. I guess that's the Retriever we love so much. With any excitement or before leaving the house he must find a bird to carry in his soft gentle mouth. Each bird has a name with story. Even though most are missing limbs we know the bond they share. ”
