February Dog Photo Contest Winners
More than 1800 (!) dog photos submitted this month - that's our biggest month ever! EVER! To put it another way, that's over 2GB of photos submitted. WOW! As always, only ten could win. And that was tougher than ever before - our first "draft pick" for winners came up with 33 possible winners! It was incredibly hard to turn any of those photos away. Both our winners and our over 250 honorable mentions (!) were phenomenal this month - be sure to stop by and see them.

Coco's Mom says: “TCoco is a 1.5 year-old Maltese-Terrier that we rescued from a shelter last year. Such a sweet dog she is in the way that she cuddles and kisses and plays with all of the neighborhood children and dogs alike. She is as playful as she is cute, well-equipped with a seemingly endless supply of energy and love. We start our day with a game of fetch and continue throughout the day to rotate our way through her ever-growing toy collection. If it squeaks or bounces, Coco likes it. She is a constant source of joy and happiness in our family.”

Ahanu

Ahanu's Mom says: “Ahanu came to our family when he was a year and half old. I have friend in Idaho who saw him in a shelter. He was about 15-20 pounds underweight and a little shy, but such a sweety that she called me in California to see if there was anyway I could take this dog. I warily said yes since I had never met this dog before but he turned out to be wonderful once he got over some seperation anxiety. Ahanu means "he laughs" since he looks like he always smiling. He is a husky/shepherd mix, but is sooooo lazy. He loves to just sleep on the best cushion he can find and usually can't last jogging over a mile with me. He is very picky about what treats he will eat, but he does love fruit and veggies and will happily eat pineapple, mangos, strawberries, and carrots.”

Maverick

Maverick's Mom says: “This is Maverick, a 10 month old Golden Retriever from Iowa. He loves to play outside (especially in water, mud, and snow) and go for hikes in the woods. His favorite toys are a stuffed moose and a flashing ball. Another favorite pasttime is going for rides in the truck cab with dad. He became part of the family at the end of May last year, just in time for me (mom) to have the summer off of teaching. We had a fun summer bonding and playing in the kiddie pool outside. He is a very special part of our family and we can't imagine it without him!”

Ginger's Mom says: “This is my HEART!! Her name is Ginger. She also has a middle name, Marie. When I mean business, I call her Ginger Marie and believe it or not, she pays close attention. Ginger is a 6 year old toy pomeranian who lights up so many peoples lives. She is a therapy dog who makes alot of elderly people laugh and smile. She by far the smartest, most precious dog I have ever had. It ia truly amazing but I have had a dog commuicator tell me that Ginger wishes she could be human! I truly believe that because she knows everything you are saying, even when you are not talking to her. She loves everyone and everything. Just pure joy and love, that's my Ginger.”

Ginger's Dad says: “We got Ginger just over 5 years ago from an animal shelter. She and one of her litter mates were left in a field and someone brought them to the shelter so we could adopt her. She loves the water and her favorite game is tug-of-war. ”

Joey

Joey's Mom says: “ He is quite unique with a pink nose and a brown and a blue eye. He loves to play, run and go on walks. He runs like a horse and is always active. He has tried many different dog treats, but his favorite is the classic ice cube used to cool drinks. We have an ice dispenser in our fridge, which has basically become his own. He walks up to the dispenser pushes his nose against it, and out pops and ice cube which he happily munches on. Joey's favorite toy is called the tennis ball snake. It is a long springy toy with a squeaker at one end and a tennis ball at the other. We put it into a bag for his Christmas present, and he was so excited that he stuck his nose in the bag and was hopping around the living room with a bag on his head. He is an amazing dog and I think these pictures capture his cutest moments.”

Prissi has been a part of my life for about 8 years now and she has made it so much more fun! ”
