August 2006 Dog Photo Contest Winners
Again this month, we enjoyed looking through over 1200 dog photo entries! Unfortunately, only ten could win. It was incredibly hard to choose our winners this month, as always... but in the end, we had to choose. Many of other excellent photos made our honorable mentions for the contest - be sure to stop by and see them.

Pogo

Pogo's Mom says: “We got Pogo from a local pet shop. Some of the family members were a bit iffy about getting her because they heard so many bad rumors about Jack Russell Terriers. However, Pogo has proved that she isn't a terrible dog that wants to chew the house down. In fact, she spends most of her time running around outside chasing tennis balls and frisbees. She also loves to swim and take walks. She is also very loveable and bright. She spends every night underneath the covers in my bed.”

Will's Mom says: “I aquired Will at 2 weeks old. His mom had died after a c-section and he was dying of aspiration pneumonia. The vets had given up on him and the owners didn't know what to do. Needless to say, I tried my best to save him and here he is now! He's enjoying his first summer swimming, training, and playing tug!”

Chloe's Mom says: “Chloe is 3 years old, however my husband and I have only had her for the past 4 months. Although she is the sweetest and most loveable dog ever, her previous owners didn’t treat her as well as they should have. Luckily they realized that they weren’t ready to take care of a dog and so did the right thing and returned Chloe to her breeder. For a long time Chloe was a very unhappy little girl; luckily her breeder worked very hard with her for a long time before putting her up for adoption. My husband and I had only been a married a few months and were looking to purchase a Wheaten puppy to start our new family; but when we heard that we had the chance to rescue Chloe we just couldn’t pass her up. Now she is a VERY happy and well loved little girl. She definitely steals the show at our house and is always the center of attention.”

Zissou's Mom says: “You can see by the photos that she likes to take long naps right after her morning walk but when she is awake she likes to play with Nico (Chihuahua) and watch TV shows like Seinfeld and The Dog Whisperer. We live in sunny San Diego so she is always ready for the park and the beach. She became part of our family when we saw her in the street, a guy was selling her and she looked ill so we decided to take her home. She is worth every single penny.”

Ms. Scarlet O'Hara's Mom says: “Scarlet is two years old, a pure bred Shih Tzu and the love of our household. Scarlet has an amazing personality, she is very mild mannered, very quiet but a clown at the same time, loves babies who come to visit, has two feline siblings, enjoys car rides, playing "dress up", and her favorite treat is baby carrots. Scarlet lives in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, however she was born in Nova Scotia and joined us when she was 8 weeks old, on a stormy winter night. We drove hours trying to get back to PEI before the big blizzard hit, as we knew if we didn't go that night, we would have to wait a few extra days because of the snow fall...and we wanted to have her join the family as soon as possible. Scarlet was introduced to tons of snow the first morning on PEI!”
