Eloise Pet Accessories pampers your pets with pale and pretty pastels by Angie McKaig
Since our pampered puppies are our little kids anyway, why not accessorize them with pastel pinks and blues?
Eloise Pet Accessories has created a collection of pillow beds, personalized collars and carriers in lovely shades of pastel to keep your little baby snug, sweet and spectacular. Their products have been featured in MGM's Legally Blonde, Six Feet Under, Providence, CSI, and The Drew Carey Show.
We recently spoke to the owner, Vickie Wagner, about her adorable product lines.
pp: What made you decide to start Eloise Pet Accessories?
vw: My Dalmatian of 16 years had passed on and I was heart broken. One evening while crying and looking out the window of my home I saw two little white dogs walking by and the one dog looked over at me and smiled (this is in the breed).
I had to touch that sweet smiling dog so I ran out and played with the dog, whose name turned out to be King. I asked the man what type of dog King was. He told me it was a Coton de Tulear. Of course I ran back to my home and got right on the computer and started looking up breeders. I was so touched by this dog I just had to have one. I got in touch with a breeder in Rome and amazing women who had me fill out a thirteen page application for my new dog Eloise.
When I picked her up in Rome I loved her so much that I wanted to take her every where with me. Hence the Eloise Pet Carrier. I looked everywhere for a travel bag that was comfortable and fashionable to no avail so I decided (since I am decorator) I would make one. Many people stopped me to look at my travel bags and I realized designing dog products was what I wanted to do.
pp: How many years have you been designing products for dogs?
vw: Three years.
pp:Are your product lines carried only in the US, or they available worldwide?
vw: As of just this week I have received new overseas orders. We also sell many exclusive designs to high end hotels such as W Hotels.
pp: What's your design background?
vw: I was a model for 5 years, I have a degree as a teacher and I also have a degree in Interior design which I was an interior decorator for 3 years. I also still own and teach with my family at a preschool in Los Angeles.
pp: How do you come up with the designs?
vw: Mostly, I watch the fashion trends and try to create beds that will fit with the decor of peoples' homes (nothing like a big unattractive bed sitting in the middle of your living room).
pp: What influences your design choices?
vw: I would say comfort for your pet, ensuring that your pet does not end up on the floor and of course, what looks chic. My color choices are often influenced by what the season is. When it is cold outside and you want to light the fireplace I think of charcoal Gray and warm browns.
pp: Your most popular product?
vw: My pet beds (all styles!). They have just taken off and I receive so many e-mails saying "My dog never slept on a pet pillow before yours!" and "I curl up with my dog on your pet pillows because they are so comfortable".
pp: Your personal favourite?
vw: For now I would say it is my Candy Heart Pet Pillow. It's summer and I have one on my sofa - it makes me smile when I look at it.
pp: What's the most rewarding part of running Eloise Pet Accessories?
vw: When I hear from people about how comfortable and happy their dogs are and seeing something I designed in a store that I love to shop at.
pp: Why do you think there has been such an increase in demand for luxury dog products over the last ten years?
vw: I believe that people have yet to find the husband of their dreams or did late in life. Their pets are their children and that is where they spend their money because, of course, you spare no expense when it comes to your child.
pp: What plans do you have for the future of Eloise Pet Accessories?
vw: Well, I am currently working on a line of pet collars. I would love to open a high end pet shop and franchise the name someday but for now I am just happy to work with so many wonderful people in this industry.
pp: Could you share a story with us about Eloise?
vw: Well, in order to test out our pet pillow I purchased several other beds and placed them around the home along with three Eloise Pet Pillows. Poor Eloise was so confused! I came home late that night and she had moved three beds into the living room and was laying across all three. Of course the funny part was all three where the Eloise Pet Pillows.
