Casual Dog Necklace

Dog Jewelry Review - A Merryvaluation
by Angie McKaig

It's all about the eighties these days, baby. For those of us who saw that decade firsthand, that means it's a wonderful (okay, at times reminiscent and at times horrifying) rerun of styles we thought long gone. For those of you who didn't see the decade firsthand (and that would be, er, all of our furkids, at least), it's a chance to dabble in styles you've only seen in magazines and old movies.

There are few images as iconic from the 80's as that of Madonna in teen angst/bride gone wild white lace with a huge "Boy Toy" sign around her waist (the outfit she wore to the '84 Grammys) and now, your pup can have her own "Boy Toy" moment with this necklace from Pup and Co Boutique.

(You'll have to supply your own white lace bustier separately, unfortunately.)

This incredibly lightweight, casual play dog necklace from Pup and Co combines what we loved most about the 80's - plastic. Neon. Smilies. And the best of "reclaiming girl power".

The bulk of the necklace is made up of interlocking, oversized white plastic chain link. Metal findings attach the chain to its main feature, a white plastic strip with neon pink outline and lettering featuring the words "Boy Toy" and an 80's-powered smilie. The small black circle is the designer's label.

Pug heads are very small and compact, so I was able to pull this over her head, but for those of you who have dogs with larger heads and snouts, the necklace features a lobster claw clasp for easy dressing.

My biggest love of this necklace was its weight. If your pup is going to be playing around, you don't necessarily want heavy weight around their neck, knocking on their chest. This necklace fits the bill perfectly as it's even lighter weight than you'd expect, and yet it was sturdy enough to wear during playtime.

Is your dog a material girl? Let her strut her stuff with the Boy Toy necklace from Pup and Co Boutique.
