Dog Clothes - A Merryvaluation
Ever since we first wrote about Angusweare way back in November of 2002, we've been in love with their sweaters. They're stunning, they're lovely, they're timeless.
And they're pink.
Don't misunderstand - the princess pug loves clothing and accessories in a wide variety of colors - but pink is, and will always be, her signature color.
Needless to say, we were thrilled (over the moon, in fact) over the package we received from Angusweare. The two sweaters the company sent in: their Cotton Two-Toned Sweater in olive and pink, and a Angora dog Sweater in pink.
Perfect for an urban girl, the first sweater is hand-knit and made from 100% mercerized cotton. It features a roll neck and roll waist which - I have to tell you - is a blessing with this little pug. While I adore her in turtlenecks, she does have a habit of being squirmy enough that any folded collar inevitably ends up un-folding around her neck as she walks or plays. The roll neck and waist, on the other hand, stayed perfectly in place for over an hour of play. I need more sweaters like this!
The cotton is one of the nicest we've ever felt on a dog sweater - and that's no exaggeration. It's pliable and moves well with Merry, but it's also sturdy enough to hold its shape and not stretch out in the wrong spots like so many softer, thinner cottons. It's a perfect weight (not too bulky, not too thin) so it's perfect for those fall or spring days. We can hardly wait for the warmer weather so we can show it off!
The second sweater - the angora - is without a doubt the frothiest, softest, cotton-candiest sweater Merry now owns. Made in a delightfully pale pink, this is a turtleneck style that can be worn folded over or, as Merry's wearing it, all the way up. It's deliciously soft. This is not a play sweater, that's for sure, but instead one that befits a string of pearls for an afternoon tea.
We were relatively sure what to expect, quality-wise, from the Angusweare sweaters based on their photos, and these pieces did not disappoint. Every edge, every inch of both sweaters is incredibly well made, with handy arm-holes to accomodate the widest possible range of doggy body types. The style of each Angusweare sweater is deliberately a little shorter than some sweaters on the market - these sweaters fell a few inches above Merry's tail, just as they do in the product shots from Angusweare. It's all part of the style, and helps to protect the edges of the sweater from getting dirty if Fido decides to perch on the sidewalk or in the garden.
If we had one thing to change about these products, it would be the neck of the Angora sweater, which was just the tiniest bit too narrow for Merry to wear comfortably for any great length of time. Just an extra half an inch to inch around, and it would have been perfect. Now, that said, many smaller breeds don't have quite the same neck girth to accomodate as a pug does - they'd work perfectly for Chihuahuas and many other narrow-necked breeds.
Overall, Merry and I were thrilled with the sweaters. They lived up to our expectations and then exceeded them - quality products indeed. Four paws up!
