Can you believe fall is here, in spades? That winter is around the corner? Weren't we just enjoying summer a few weeks ago?
Believe it or not, the fall and winter season is upon us, and the carefree days of summer are behind us for yet another year. Luckily, this isn't all bad - it means new coats, new boots, new turtleneck sweaters, fall colors, rich fabrics, and basically some of our favorite wardrobe pieces.
Fitting right in, Chez Charles Dog Wear sent along two of their fall/winter dog coats for us to try out! (The princess pug, as you can imagine, loved this idea to kibbles & bits!)
The first coat, The Aviator, was absolutely to-die-for. Made of deep chocolatey brown pleather with a thick sherpa lining, this coat is decadence personified and is a terrific look for winter. It's cozy warm and incredibly chic.
The second coat, The Mocha Faux Fur Coat, is a deliciously rich faux suede lined in caramel-colored faux fur. It's slightly lighter-weight than the Aviator, which means it would be OK for cooler fall days as well.
Like all Chez Charles designs, the front fastens with a criss-crossed three-velcro-strip pattern, and they keep the back line of the coat clean by sewing the velcro belly straps an inch or two into the underside. (This design is fantastic for keeping the top clean when strolling through muddier areas.)
The fit is excellent, true to the topline. Something we really enjoy, since Merry's a pug: the base of each coat has a slight "vee" sewn into it, which allows for curly tails without bunching up. Each coat also has an "I'm lost" information tag sewn inside, and a loop to hang over a coat hook.
If we had one thing to change: the company still reports that these coats are reversible, but given how the velcro straps are sewn in, not to mention the coat hook loop and smaller but still very noticeable "I'm lost" tag sewn into the interior, we wouldn't recommend it. It would completely spoil the look of the coat, which is otherwise fantastic!
Merry and I loved the coats, and plan to get a lot of use out of them this winter. Highly recommended!
